Firefighters battle huge furniture warehouse blaze at Optima Trade Park in Kent
Major Tailbacks at the Dartford Crossing due to the blaze.
Crews were alerted to huge plumes of smoke coming from Thames Road shortly after 6pm and it took around four hours to bring the fire under control.
The whole of a single storey furniture warehouse was destroyed in the blaze. There were no reports of any injuries.
Traffic on the approach to Dartford was diverted back towards Crayford at the height of the incident and Thames Road remains closed this morning in both directions.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: "The fire was discovered by an employee of an adjoining warehouse who smelt burning and saw smoke coming from the roof of the warehouse next door. They then made the first of 36 calls to the Brigade.
"The warehouse blaze produced a lot of thick black smoke and we asked anyone in the local area or driving past to keep their windows closed.
Firefighters from Bexley and surrounding London fire stations were assisted at the scene by crews from Kent Fire and Rescue.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
